True Power and Spiritual Discernment in 1 Corinthians 2
In 1 Corinthians 2, the Apostle Paul admits that when he came to preach Jesus, he did not come with eloquence or polished words. He came in weakness, fear, and trembling. Yet he spoke anyway. Verses 3–5 remind us that the power of the gospel does not rest on human ability but on God’s Spirit working through us.
That truth cuts deep. When we are called to speak of Jesus, fear often creeps in. What if we say the wrong thing? What if people reject us? But Paul shows that the weight is not on our shoulders. Our job is to be faithful in speaking. God’s job is to supply the power. We do not need to know how it will all come together. We only need to trust that His Spirit will provide the wisdom and strength we lack.
Later in the chapter, verses 14–15 reveal why the message of Christ divides so sharply. The person without the Spirit cannot accept the things that come from God. To them, it sounds like foolishness. That means there will be moments when believers are misunderstood, dismissed, or even mocked. The standard of judgment from those outside of Christ is not rooted in truth. It cannot be the measure we live by.
Instead, when you are filled with the Spirit, you gain discernment to see what is of God and what is not. You learn to test the spirits, to judge rightly, and to walk in wisdom that the world cannot grasp.
Following Jesus will always set you apart. But that is the beauty of life in the Spirit: His power replaces your weakness, and His wisdom carries you where your own strength never could.
This is the invitation of 1 Corinthians 2. Stop carrying the pressure on your own shoulders and let the Spirit lead. The more you rely on Him, the more courage you find to speak, the more clarity you gain to discern, and the more confidence you carry knowing His wisdom never fails.
If you have ever felt God stirring something in you but struggled to take the next step, In His Voice, I Walk is a place to work it out. Writing your journey helps you move past fear and notice the ways God is leading you, even when the world cannot understand. Over time, you will see how faithfully He has been guiding your steps.
