Honoring God’s Order and Presence in 1 Corinthians 11
God’s Order in Creation
In 1 Corinthians 11:3, the Apostle Paul teaches about God’s order. The head of Christ is God, the head of man is Christ, and the head of woman is man. This design is not about diminishing value but about honoring the way God has structured creation. To live faithfully is to recognize and respect the order He established.
Worship With Reverence
In 1 Corinthians 11:5–6, Paul speaks about women covering their heads while praying or prophesying, and in verse 14 he reminds men to maintain their distinction. His concern is that the gathered church reflect honor and reverence toward God rather than confusion or disorder. Worship was never meant to elevate self but to point to the holiness of God.
Division Revealed in the Church
In 1 Corinthians 11:18–19, Paul acknowledges that even in the gathered body, not everyone truly belongs to Christ. Divisions expose what is genuine, because God’s approval will make it clear who is truly walking with Him. The church is called to unity, but it must also be marked by truth. Lukewarm faith cannot stay hidden forever.

The Lord’s Supper With Reverence
Paul gives instructions for the Lord’s Supper beginning in 1 Corinthians 11:23. He reminds the church that receiving the bread and cup is not a casual act but a sacred one. To come to the table is to be in the presence of Christ, and we should do so with hearts humbled by grace. In 1 Corinthians 11:27, he warns against receiving Christ in an unworthy manner, meaning with unconfessed sin or careless disregard for His sacrifice. The table is not about us but about honoring Him.
Honoring the Presence of God
1 Corinthians 11 challenges us to live with reverence. From the way we honor God’s order, to the way we worship, to the way we approach the Lord’s table, every part of life before Him calls for humility and respect. God is not casual about His presence, and neither should we be.
